Artist’s Statement

When I have a camera in my hands, something magical happens in front of the lens. All the small details I pick up from my surroundings are suddenly relevant, interesting and important. They lead me. I don’t spend time figuring out what I want the picture to be, or framing the image. Peace comes to me when I’m photographing. I forget the world.

My art is inspired by nature, architecture and decay. I love how you can see the effect of time on objects. Art makes me feel alive and connected to the world. Photography is my medium of choice, but I also enjoy drawing, painting, creating collage and fused glass.

My name is Mia BloomBecker. I’m 20 years old, and am living in Massachusetts for college. I hope to travel throughout the world someday. I was fortunate enough to travel in Europe alone, and it was very inspiring. I enjoy writing to people far away, and hearing about other cultures. I’m studying art therapy and women’s studies at Lesley College.

At the Santa Cruz County Fair in 2005, I entered five photographs, and received 1st place, 2nd, 3rd place, and two honorable mentions. The next year, I won 1st place, with 2 honorable mentions. I’ve had a solo show, and have also participated in several group shows.

I sell 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 and 11x14 prints as well as cards. I have an etsy store with my photo cards and other art. Please e-mail me about prices, or comments about my website. I’d love to hear from you. Polkadotumbrella@sbcglobal.net
